With twelve years of homeschooling under her belt, Elaine Fram Distad began to develop an idea for a preschool activity book. This would be no ordinary book. It would be different from all the rest. It would be better than a consumable write-in activity book that is used only once! Why not create a book than can be used over and over again? Give it manipulatives, and make activities and games that require placement of the manipulatives. Make it fun! And above all, design it so that the children are learning as they play.

Ideas began flowing onto the paper. Page after page began filling with educational concepts, cute little insects and creatures, letters, numbers, and empty squares.

The lead character would be be a bee. But what would be his name? Buzzy Bee was already trademarked. Busy Bee, Billy Bee, Bobby Bee and every other imaginable "real" name were already in use. His name must be unique...a coined name. Thus, Bizzly Bee was born.

The author had SO much fun creating every page, and her youngest children became the guinea pigs to test each concept. (Was it fun? Did you like it? Will other kids like it?)

After months of hard labour, very late nights and unrelentless dedication to the project, Bizzly Bee and Friends Welcome You to Preschool! rolled off the presses.

The book has spawned other Bizzly Bee™ products, and more are planned to follow in the future. Someday Bizzly Bee will graduate from preschool and move on to kindergarten.
